About the Covington Fire Department
The Covington Fire Department has a staff of 55 personnel consisting of 54 full time State certified firefighters providing fire protection, emergency medical first responder services, haz-mat response, rescue operations, fire safety education, fire cause investigation and fire code inspections to a population of 15,000 over 15.45 square miles.
In August of 2003, the Covington Fire Department became the 4th department in the state of Georgia and the 89th in the world to be recognized as an accredited agency by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International.
Chief Floyd received the Chief Fire Office Designation from the Commission of Chief Fire Office Designation, being only the 13th in the State and the 113th in the world to achieve this distinction.
The Department was re-accreditated in August 2008 and the Fire Chief was re-designated as a Chief Fire Officer.
