Janet was born and attended school
in Covington and graduated from R.L. Cousins High School in 1965.
She attended Clark- Atlanta University and Lewis Business College
in Michigan.
Janet has been on the Covington City
Council for over 20 years. Her assignments include the Pension Board,
The Housing Board of Adjustments and Appeals and others. She served
on the First Newton County Jail Committee.
Janet is a community activist
and has helped to organize and implement
many successful organizations. Among them are: The Newton Co. Voter's
League and the Washington Street Community Center.
Janet is a member of Grace United
Methodist Church and has been since the age of eight and taught Sunday
School for over 20 years and currently sings in the choir and is Lay
Speaker for the church U.M.C. Janet is also a member and secretary
of the Health and Welfare Committee and P.P.R. Committee Chairman
and serve in other capacities. Janet is a teacher and assistant secretary
of the Interdenominational Church School, Secretary of the R.L. Cousins
Alumni Class of 1965, and Secretary and District Rep. of the Executive
Democratic Party and is a member of Georgia Association of Black Elected
Officials.
