DEFINITION
To process geospatial data and provide basic Geographic Information Systems (GIS) support. Including equipment maintenance, map creation, the collection of GIS data in different formats, utilizing GPS (Global Positioning System) equipment, electronic data recorders, and digitizers; Performing related work.

Job Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develop and edit GIS datasets.
• Import GIS data from alternative sources.
• Conducts field verification and data collection.
• Maintain GIS & GPS data.
• Establish and manage a file system structure (Personal computer). 
• Build and maintain spatial data layers.
• Designs and produces thematic maps.
• Prepare cartographically correct maps utilizing ArcGIS software.
• Coordinate with government entities to accomplish specific project goals.
• Solves minor technical problems related to GIS & GPS systems.
• Converts Information from Photographs, construction drawings, and AutoCAD drawings into ESRI compatible format.
• Maintains GPS survey monumentation grid for real world mapping of utilities and other features deemed pertinent.
PERIPHERAL DUTIES
• Operate, clean, and maintain GIS & GPS equipment.
• Operate GPS related software; perform data corrections, and conversions.
• Assist customers (walk-ins).

Job Qualifications

Necessary Knowledge and Skills:
• Minimum of (4) years of experience with computers
• Basic knowledge of Geographic Information System, Global Positioning System and, Cartographic principles. General database functionality, as well as considerable knowledge of the methods and operation of computer equipment and software.
• Skill in operation of the tools and equipment listed.
• Ability to perform process control calculations, exercise safe working habits, and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.  Must also be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public.
Reasoning Abilities
• Must have the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form.

Job Education

Education and Experience:
• Graduation from an accredited two-year college or university with an associate’s Degree or equivalent; and
• Experience in operating ESRI software, GPS equipment, AutoCAD Map, Microstation, Microsoft Access & Excel; or
• An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Computer Skills

SPECIAL REQUIRMENTS
Applicant must possess a valid State Driver’s License (Class C) and good driving record.
