Job Details

To support the power distribution operations department with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Computer Aided Design (CAD) software.  Position includes equipment maintenance, map creation, collection of GIS data from field GPS (Global Positioning System) equipment performing related work.

Job Duties


• Develop and edit GIS datasets.
• Import GIS data from alternative sources.
• Conducts field verification and data collection.
• Produce drawings, sketches for distribution system modifications
• Maintain accurate map of distribution system
• Process geospatial data into system maps
• Produce and maintain one line maps of underground distribution system
• Import CAD and GIS data to and from GIS System map
• Coordinate mapping efforts with GIS department
• Update and maintain work orders and internal tracking databases
• Maintain GIS & GPS data.
• Establish and manage a file system structure (Personal computer). 
• Solves minor technical problems related to GIS & GPS systems.
• Converts Information from Photographs, construction drawings, and AutoCAD drawings into ESRI compatible format.
• Communicate professionally with clients

• Operate, clean, and maintain GIS & GPS equipment.
• Operate GPS related software; perform data corrections, and conversions.

Job Qualifications


Education and Experience:
• Graduation from an accredited two-year college or university with an associate’s Degree or equivalent; and
• Experience in operating GPS equipment is preferred
• Experience in AutoCAD, Microsoft Access & Excel; or
• An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Education

Necessary Knowledge and Skills:

• Minimum of (4) years of experience with computers
• Basic knowledge of Electricity.
• Thorough knowledge of Geographic Information System, Global Positioning System, Spatial Database Engine (SDE), AutoCAD (2D only) and, Cartographic principles. General database functionality, as well as working knowledge of the methods and operation of computer equipment and software.
• Skill in operation of Adobe Acrobat (PDF's) and the tools and equipment listed.

Reasoning Abilities
• Ability to perform process control calculations, exercise safe working habits, detail oriented, and communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing.  Ability to manage time effectively and meet project delivery dates. Ability to follow instructions prioritizes work, and complete jobs in a timely manner must also be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public.

Job Computer Skills

Motor vehicle, Personal computer, GPS Unit, Microsoft Office, Excel, GIS related software, computer-aided systems, telephone, copy machine, fax machine, and plotters.
Applicant must possess a valid State Driver’s License (Class C) and good driving record.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use both hands. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk and hear. The employee must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions.  The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually is quiet.
