city employee recently mentioned to me that city of
Covington employees used to be able to take classes with Troy University
because of their campus in the city, however, that campus is now closed. I am
the Regional Field Manager for the University of West Alabama, and I live in
Covington. I'd love to provide resources and assistance for anyone left in the
gap that Troy left. We have no plans for a campus in the area; however, I am
available to provide individualized support for online students. I'd also love
to work out a scholarship for city employees that attend with us. We can fund
the scholarship so the county does not have to pay anything; we will just ask
for a point of contact to verify individuals are employed by the county. We do
not require any sort of exclusivity, so employees are free to go anywhere. We
just provide a little incentive to go with us via the scholarship. Is this
something that the City of Covington would be interested in?

I assist a company that provides
third party utility billing services to building owners in Georgia using the City of Covington for their utility services. My company specifically helps our clients
recover utility costs (e.g., water/sewer/gas/electric/trash and pest) from
their tenants. Our single-family home clients are the property
owners/landlords, that are set-up with their tenants using a re-billing method.
Each home gets individually metered by the City for their usage, but since
the accounts are in the client’s name, the client re-bills the metered usage
for each home, typically with a service fee attached for the billing services
provided. From my understanding, this type of method does not seem to be
prohibited by the City's rules and regulations. Please let me know if my
understanding of the above is accurate and compliant with the City or
direct me towards any applicable rules/regulations I should be aware of. Your guidance is greatly appreciated.

I have left two messages with the sanitation department but have not received a call back yet. Our church is located in the store front on 2117 Pace St. We are charged around $30 a month for solid waste pick up; however, there is only one dumpster, which is located behind NAPPA. Are we all being charged $30 to share one dumpster among six businesses? Is there a way to request additional dumpsters? We only meet once a week and do not have enough trash for $30 a month fee.

I'm hoping you can help me. We're in the process of putting together a national database of fire hydrant locations that will be used by insurance companies to better determine the appropriate rate for property and casualty insurance. We've already compiled over 3.1 million hydrants including a growing portion of Georgia and I'd like to add yours to the mix. I know that this information is already given to Verisk/ISO so they can rate your fire stations. Is it possible to get this information from you?
You can see our application consumer facing application at www.freehomerisk.com. Hydrants will be added to the return at the end of April and we'd love to have yours in there. We combine the hydrant location with the distance to the local fire station to automatically determine the FireProtection Class of every property in your city. It's one of the most important and asked questions - "how far is the nearest hydrant?" Our goal is to automate that process. If you have hydrant locations in shapefile, geodatabase or Excel format that would be excellent. You can see sort of how the tool would work on our website, www.hazardhub.com under the Tools tab. We have distance to fire station and distance to fire hydrant will be similar. As you will see we are not charging for this application.
We are not interested in anything that could be considered sensitive information. Just the hydrant locations. The same information we could gather driving down the streets of your town. We will never make the data public and it will never be resold. It will only be used for calculating the distance from the address to the nearest fire hydrant. We are giving that information away for free.
Some of the places in Georgia that have graciously provided us with hydrants include: Atlanta, Columbus, Sandy Springs, East Point, Stockbridge, McDonough, Tifton, Brunswick, Bainbridge, Austell, Locust Grove, and dozens of others. Some other places from around the country that have provided hydrants include: Washington DC, Boston, New York, Miami, Seattle, Indianapolis, Houston, Minneapolis, Memphis, Seattle, Portland, Denver, Hartford, Pittsburgh, and Birmingham.
