There are several phases
an applicant must complete and pass before they can be
considered for employment. This process assist the department
in assuring that we select the most qualified people to
become a part of the Covington Fire Department.
Once a properly completed
application is turned into the Personnel Office of the
City of Covington the application/selection process begins.
- Phase I. Pre-Employment test
This test is a general aptitude test and will be administered
at the Covington Fire Department Headquarters located
at 2101 Pace Street, Covington, GA.
- Phase II. Physical Testing Assessment
In accordance with the requirement of the Georgia Firefighters
Standards and Training Council you must successfully past
a physical ability test. The test consist of 7 stations
designed to simulate actual evolutions that must be performed
by firefighters working at emergencies. ( A copy of the
requirements are available by contacting the Fire Chief)
- Phase III. Oral Interview
An oral interview will be conducted before a panel. The
interview will be conducted at the Covington Fire Department.
- Phase IV. Background Investigation
A complete background will be conducted on all applicants
who have successfully passed the first three phases. This
investigation will consist of criminal/drivers history
check and an interview with neighbors, previous employers,
references, etc.
- Phase V. Interview with the Fire Chief
- Phase VI. Job Offer by the City of Covington Personnel
Department
A job offer will be made contingent upon passing a drug
screen and a medical physical examination conducted by
the City of Covington's physicians.
