Kim Carter

Kim Carter was elected in November
2007 and began her four-year term as Mayor of Covington on January
1, 2008.
Kim was born and raised in Covington, where she graduated
from Newton County Comprehensive High School in 1979. Though
career and family took her away from home in 1982, Kim never
lost her connection to and love for the City of Covington.
With deep family roots and fond memories, Kim knew she would
return home one day. In 2004, Kim came back to Covington,
where she founded BusinessWorks Solutions, Inc. As President
and CEO, Kim enjoys providing business consulting services
to small and medium business in Newton, Rockdale, and the
greater Metropolitan Atlanta region.
Education & Work History
Kim earned her Bachelors and Masters of Business Administration
degrees from Georgia State University. She has a broad base
of business experience across a 25-year career spanning corporate
finance, marketing, and sales positions for Fortune 100 companies
including:
· Siemens Energy & Automation - Corporate Finance
· Thorn EMI - Sales & Consulting
· Bausch & Lomb - Corporate Finance, Marketing,
and Sales
· KitchenAid - Sales
· Snapple Beverage Corp - Sales
Kim has also worked in small businesses in the commercial
real estate and internet web commerce fields.
Community Service
While she had no prior political experience before running
for Mayor, Kim has long been active in the community. Her
service includes:
· Board of Directors for The Community Foundation for
Newton County
· Covington Zoning Board of Appeals (now resigned)
· Ambassador's Committee of Covington/Newton County
Chamber of Commerce
· Economic Development Roundtable for Covington/Newton
County Chamber of Commerce
· Main Street Covington Design Committee
· Affordable Housing Task Force for the City of Covington
Personal
Kim is the daughter of Maxine Northcutt and Jerry Capes.
She is married to her husband of 25 years, Maurice Carter.
When not running her business and serving the community, Kim
enjoys gardening, cooking, sports, and travel. More often
than not, though, you'll find her simply spending quality
time with friends and neighbors. After all, that is one of
the greatest joys of this great city!
