on: TREES AND DEVELOPMENT: THE TREE PRESERVATION ORDINANCE.
The City of Covington has recently revised its Tree Preservation
Ordinance. A Soil and Tree Conservation Plan and Permit are
required before any land disturbance can take place on any new
construction site. A Right-of-Way Encroachment Permit is required
for any activity on public property by private individuals or
contractors. A Timber Harvesting Permit is required for any
tree removal that precedes development and land disturbance.

COVINGTON'S COMMUNITY TREE RESOURCE.
The City of Covington has over 4,000 public trees. These trees
were inventoried in 1992 and a canopy cover assessment was done
in 1999 using 1972 and 1988 aerial photographs. There are also
more than 1,200 historic trees growing on public and private
property. Learn more about these historic citizens of Covington
and see if your tree is on the inventory list. Find out how

TREE PRESERVATION PROGRAM: The
City's Tree Preservation Program officially began in 1991, with
the adoption of a Tree Ordinance and formation of the Tree Preservation
Board. The Tree Preservation Board meets quarterly. Find out

18thMark your calendars now for the City of Covington's annual
Arbor Day Celebration. Outstanding Community Tree Stewards will
be named, a commemorative tree will be planted, and free seedlings
